The Best We Creative-Independents Can Do During the Great Reset
The Great Reset is happening. Usher in the Age of HyperControl. Sure, you and I spent months fuming, protesting, and ranting with each new restriction. However; The Great Reset Is Happening. It is. While that may be a great relief for Control Freaks and Rule-Followers, it feels like a nightmare for us Creative Independents. So what’s our move? Before offering my answer, I shall offer an approximate summary of futile actions many of us have taken so far in our efforts to stop the Great Reset Beast in its tracks beginning sometime in March 2020.
With our skeptical temperaments, we spent the first months questioning the claims of the corporate media and politicians concerning the severity of the crisis. Many of us researched the data, and some went so far as to research the medical studies presented as justification for the extreme measures. After all, the lock-downs and social-distancing policies targeted all sorts of independent artists, their venues, and learning spaces. Now throw in a majority of entrepreneurs, small business owners and their staff as well. Really, we’re talking pretty much all realms that we Creative-Independents physically operate in, whether to work or socialize. We tried to wake people up, we protested, we pursued political solutions. As noted before, The Great Reset has proceeded all the same. To put the reason for this in simplest terms, we live in a society that makes huge decisions that affect all based on majority-held beliefs, and the majority, for whatever damned reasons, are either okay with the policies as they have been imposed, or just don’t care enough to stop them.
But We Can Do Something
And we must if we want to remain sane. Creative-Independents are consistently behind the greatest advances in human societies. All cultural innovations in the visual and performance arts, the various sciences, and social spheres; all have come about thanks to Creative-Independents and their bold visions. And then there are the culinary and art achievers; every cool pub, restaurant, store, theater, and concert hall. If we don’t do something about this “Great Reset”, we will end up with…well, whatever the soulless, greedy, control freaks permit us to end up with.
Objective: We will need a relentless and compelling response from the clusters of folks who are keeping the ideals of individual freedom and autonomy alive. But we will not benefit from some esoteric database of ideals alone. The world will need to know there are groups of people courageously living their lives according to their values and dreams, in words and deeds. Otherwise, such ideals will only appear as fantastic visions of a bygone time, found in mythic tomes.
Okay, So What is Our Best Move Now?
First, we can update our communication skills daily. The ability to communicate respectfully and honestly is the most effective skill for opening new perspectives in the minds of fellow humans. This sounds relatively easy, but it requires courage and stamina these days (have you noticed?). The pursuit of truth over ideology is shunned by the majority, who are following the directives of “their leaders”. Be courageous and be generous with fresh viewpoints. It benefits all when alternative viewpoints are expressed honestly and respectfully.
Gain credibility by living your life your way while expressing love, support and compassion for those who are afraid to do so. Closed-minded folks can easily dismiss your words. But when they witness you confidently diving into “forbidden” streams and realize you are thriving, you create an opening into their field of possibilities. Real evidence counters fear, and we shall be the living proof from here on out (“should you choose to accept this mission” of course). How shall we live then? We can speak out against harmful activities, whether committed by private or government folks. Let us respect and promote basic human rights consistently for each and every man, woman, and child on this planet, our God-given right to respectfully interact with other humans and the natural world, free of coercion. Choose respectful persuasion over coercion every time, and demand the same from all fellow humans, “government” and “private” alike. It is crucial we support local, independent businesses over corporate services, because local people are your immediate and real-life community. And of course, we advance permaculture practices over destructive and wasteful production. If you aren’t up to speed on permaculture, well, it is only the very technology that offers solutions for all the world’s problems. That is, if enough of us take heed. In all cases, put it all out there in words and deeds.
It Will Backfire on Them…Eventually
Lockdowns and “Working From Home” has spawned new Independent Content Creators. Meanwhile, Hollywood, Wall Street and corporate media outlets are losing their power to monopolize the world’s attention. Of course, they are trying to dominate our Internet spaces as well, so we must play to win on the local level, in our neighborhoods and towns. Despite corporate/government efforts, there will be more and more rising stars among the Independent Sector. Audiences are discovering their own power, the power they have always held: The power to choose. They have always had the power to choose who they care to support. More and more, they are choosing to support fellow humans right within the towns in which we all live. And now everyone has the power to choose independent news reporters, filmmakers, video producers in all genres in our towns, the Internet and abroad. That is us, the Creative-Independents. Communicate the powerful benefits of freedom to your growing audience, freedom to create, to innovate, to share, and to interact with other humans and the natural world. Make your having lived on this planet, at this amazing time, a blessing and a cause for celebration. Make your projects and your life a joyous celebration of freedom.
